I was truly honoured to make this rustic “naked” style wedding cake recently.
When Jo described her wedding style I knew this cake would be perfect and it looked truly fabulous on display in the Buttery at the Bull Wrotham.
5 tiers of yummy lemon sponge with alternating layers of zesty lemon buttercream, lemon curd and raspberry jam adorned with fresh seasonal berries. Definitely the type of cake I love to eat so hope the guests loved it too. The massive thank you hug from the bride said it all.
There has been a definite trend in recent years with wedding designs moving from the very pretty vintage style with lots of lace and pearls to a more freestyle soft rustic textured style and I must admit a favourite look of mine. I love the idea of sumptuous layers of cake with beautiful soft flowers and plump fruits, after all a cake feeds your eyes first but the taste has to live up to the first sight.
I am looking forward to creating some more soft rustic style cakes not only “naked” version like here, so called because they don’t have the icing layer traditional with wedding cakes but also textured buttercream cakes and soft garden flowers, so hope this trend is hear to stay.
